POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:          Health and Medical Sciences Teacher

FLSA:                              Exempt

REPORTS TO:               Principal and/or other Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 210 days

SUPERVISES:                    N/A

 QUALIFICATIONS:         Must hold or be eligible for Virginia Teacher License with 

endorsement in Health and Medical Sciences and EMS Educational Coordinator

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  

• Have the ability to develop creative, innovative lessons which will spark students’ interest in pursuing science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health sciences (STEM-H) related careers
• Be self-motivated and a strong team member
• Have an understanding of and willingness to implement problem-based learning
• Have an understanding of curriculum and integration of all content areas
• Have ability to differentiate lessons to serve ALL students
• Possess proper written and oral communication skills
• Have the ability to work effectively with school personnel, students and parents
• Have effective leadership skills and a good knowledge of the position

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

• Abide by State statutes, School Board policies and regulations
• Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, Division policy and administrative regulation
• Serve on committees as assigned
• Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g. instructional technology)
• Seek and apply for grant opportunities to extend and enhance STEM instruction
• Plan and provide quality professional development as directed by Central Office Staff
