POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist 

FLSA:   Exempt

REPORTS TO:  Assistant Superintendent for Support Services

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Twelve-month employee 

SUPERVISES:  N/A

                              

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

 

• School Psychology Degree from a National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) approved program

• Appropriate State certification as a School Psychologist 

 

PREFERRED:

 

• Experience in public school setting

 

 

 FOCUS: School psychologists evaluate students in accordance with the mandates for students with disabilities.  They consult with school personnel and parents on matters of a psycho-educational nature, and provide direct and indirect psychological services to the students in the Pittsylvania County School Division.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  

• Consult with parents, teachers, other school personnel, and community agencies to enhance the learning and adjustment of students
• Identify and assess the learning, development, and needs of individuals and groups, as well as, the environmental factors that affect learning and adjustment
• Utilize assessment data about the student and his/her environment to develop appropriate interventions and programs
• Administer and interpret appropriate assessments required to determine eligibility for special education services
• Prepare and communicate assessment reports for eligibility determination
• Participate as an Individualized Education Program (IEP) team member to develop and interpret functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans, and determine behavior manifestation
• Apply ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services and observe relevant laws and policies that govern practice
• Participate in professional organizations and continually seek to improve professional knowledge and skill
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff
• Promote implementation of Division Crisis Intervention Program that includes special emphasis on suicide prevention and trauma-informed care
• Collaborate with Support Services staff to address areas of need

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Abide by State statutes, School Board policies and regulations
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations
• Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by direct supervisor
• Log Medicaid services for Medicaid reimbursement
• Serve on committees as assigned
• Perform any duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Support Services
