POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Science, Technology. Engineering, and Mathematics
(STEM) Teacher
EFFECTIVE DATE: 2024-2025 school year
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 210 days
SUPERVISES: N/A
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED
- Have or be eligible for Virginia Teacher Licensure with endorsement in a STEM area
- Have the ability to develop creative, innovative lessons which will spark
students’ interest in pursuing STEM-related careers
- Be self-motivated and a strong team member
- Be willing to work on multiple grade levels-elementary, middle, and secondary
- Have an understanding of and willingness to implement problem-based learning
- Have an understanding of curriculum and integration of all content areas
- Have ability to differentiate lessons to serve ALL students
- Possess proper written and oral communication skills
- Have ability to work effectively with school personnel, students, and parents
- Have effective leadership skills and good knowledge of position
PREFERRED:
- Endorsement in Gifted Education
FOCUS: STEM Education
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Seek and apply for grant opportunities to extend and enhance STEM instruction
- Collaborate with Gifted Resource Teachers to plan and provide STEM enrichment opportunities
- Collaborate with base school teachers to provide Standards of Learning (SOL) science and math intervention and support
- Plan and provide quality professional development as directed by Central Office Staff
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by State statutes, School Board policies and regulations
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation
- Serve on committees as assigned
- Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g. instructional technology)
- Please note: the candidate will be required to work collaboratively with staff to create a curriculum for the program/course(s).
