POSITION TITLE: Bus Aide

REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal/Transportation Specialist
Assistant Superintendent for Operations
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months (180 days)
SUPERVISES: Students Assigned to Special Needs Routes
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED
- Clear criminal background check
- Good moral character
- Professional conduct
- Compassion for and a willingness to serve those with special needs
PREFERRED
- First Aid and CPR Certification
FOCUS: To provide specialized assistance and supervision in transporting students with special needs
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains a positive environment and responds to the needs of students
- Supervises special needs students at all times while on the bus and while loading and unloading the bus
- Exhibits good judgement, uses appropriate language, and demonstrates exemplary behavior in all interactions with students and colleagues
- Possesses a knowledge of crisis management procedures and assists the driver in handling on-road emergencies
- Exercises necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintains confidentiality in handling student-specific information
- Possesses effective oral and written communication skills
- Attends monthly safety meetings and Transportation Department In-Service Training as directed by building-level administrators and the Director of Transportation
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the driver in maintaining the neatness and cleanliness of the bus
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation, building-level administrators, or their designees
