POSITION TITLE:           Agricultural Education Teacher

 

FLSA:                              Exempt

 

QUALIFICATIONS:         Must hold or be eligible to hold Virginia teacher licensure

                                      Industry certification credential (for initial licensure)

 

REPORTS TO:                 Principal and/or other Supervisor

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  11-month contract

 

                            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Have experience and/or knowledge of plant science, animal science, agricultural mechanics, agricultural economics & management, forestry/wildlife management, and horticulture.
  2. Participate in curriculum review and design.
  3. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  4. Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
  5. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  6. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  7. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  8. Create a safe laboratory environment, following OSHA standards for safe practices.
  9. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  10. Effectively implement district initiatives.
  11. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  2. Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4. Maintain an active FFA, providing leadership opportunities at federation, district, state and national level
  5. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  6. Serve on committees as assigned.
  7. Remain current on instructional practices in agricultural education.
